Quantum mechanics applies to objects that can be seen by the naked eye
The UC Santa Barbara researchers seen below "have provided the first clear demonstration that the theory of quantum mechanics applies to the mechanical motion of an object large enough to be seen by the naked eye."
In a paper published in the March 17 issue of the advance online journal Nature, Aaron O'Connell, a doctoral student in physics, and John Martinis and Andrew Cleland, professors of physics, describe the first demonstration of a mechanical resonator that has been cooled to the quantum ground state, the lowest level of vibration allowed by quantum mechanics. With the mechanical resonator as close as possible to being perfectly still, they added a single quantum of energy to the resonator using a quantum bit (qubit) to produce the excitation. The resonator responded precisely as predicted by the theory of quantum mechanics.
I like this part:
Bob Harris says: "What's the real-world application? No one knows, although cats should start avoiding any box they could become trapped in."
(didn't it?)
True Night? Maybe. Even so, I'd still trash it. Prefer Mayhem where he calls her his god-given solace.
The crime was nigh impossible
Yeah, it was, and I recognized it as such. I think the reason I liked it so much was twofold—the noirish style in which it was filmed and seeing Frankie Muniz playing so against type. While the crime was close to impossible, I think the implication of it, that something so traumatic could happen and how the mind chooses to cope with it, was both fascinating and heartbreaking.
I have 2 very good leads on therapists for mac in TX. They follow a Dr. his current therapist really likes and they would only be 20-30 min. away. YAY!
Also good move news, the loan to buy the house with closed today and the funds will be available mid next week. My dad is checking to see if the seller has done the work requested. I am going to call about insurance today and then getting the closing papers together will be all that is left.
About a roughousin' guy makin' his way in wild west of Sweden.
Norway?
I swigged a drink from my bottle of booze that had more in common with lighter fluid than a smooth whiskey, but I didn't have time to be a damn connoisseur, I had a draft to finish.
I wonder if my manager would sign off on an expense report for cheap booze and a hotel room. It would make revising my next article a lot more appealing.
I'm glad things are moving forward for you, msbelle.
msbelle, that's awesome news. It's happening so fast!
MY realtor in TX told us, offer to closing is usually a month. My realtor in NY says that here it is more like 3 mos.
So fast on one side of the equation and slow on the other. But, I just got the move and storage estimate, so that is another step toward selling. No mention of a date we could get things into storage though.
My experience is more like 3-6, but that's all involving NYC coops. (Buying my own, overseeing the sale of a unit where we had evicted the previous tennant, and refinancing the entier building.) I'm guessing there are fewer lawyers involved in the sale of a TX home and things move a bit faster.
