ION, I had the broadcasting teacher from the high school talking to my students today about the program at the HS (they register for 9th grade in about a month). Turns out they have the oldest HS radio station in the country. Their first sports director? Harrison Ford. Their first news director? Hilary Rodham.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, pandas, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Well, people like my dad(who's not really a Limbaugh guy for all of his limitations as a human being) but he kind of thinks like one...I think his main problem with a dude like Limbaugh is that he is in-your-face and bombastic, rather than that he disagrees. My dad is a very morally and ethically lazy guy who really just wants to hear that white guys have it right and that he doesn't really have to concern himself with world affairs if he doesn't feel like it. If Rush Limbaugh could ease back on the haterade by the tiniest margin, I bet my dad could become a fan.(Dad's not a theocrat, though.) Which is sad, not only because he is my father but because he probably has one of the highest IQs of anyone I know personally. But sometimes he too is a stupid idiot.
Cue the Simpsons jokes: Las Vegas monorail company declares bankruptcy.
I call the little one "Bitey"!

The local news has been playing clips all morning of Mayor Daley delivering a righteous smackdown to Harrison Ford, who I have to say is coming off as a ginormous tool. (He's still worked up about the Miegs Field thing. Poor baby multi-millionaire, having to fly into commercial airports with the peons.)
That's neat, ChiKat.
This could almost be a Monty Python sketch: Oxford cops reprimanded for tobogganing on riot shields
Oxford cops who used their riot shields for toboggans during the recent, unprecedented snowy weather have been reprimanded by their Superintendent, Andrew Murray, who "reminded them in no uncertain terms that tobogganing on duty, on police equipment and at taxpayers' expense is a very bad idea should they wish to progress under my command."
eta: There's a video too.

I know, isn't it! They just did a major re-model and update to their radio and tv broadcasting facilities a couple of years ago and it's beautiful. Now, I just hope they can keep it. It just came out in the news that the district is having to cut 70 teachers.

I'll need to check that out when I get home!
Oxford cops reprimanded for tobogganing on riot shields
As the poster notes,
Hell, I'd rather have them tobogganing on the things than using them to beat up peaceful protesters at Climate Camp.
Plus, I'm all about adaptive reuse!
Sometimes I HATE the New York Times -- Size 12 is not fat!. Or so they've realized. Somehow it's not news.
The Style section is generally infuriating.
