On what? Last time my 'hood lost power, I am told it was a squirrel completing an unauthorized circuit. Birds just land on insulated wires. Mostly.

Oh, sure, insulated wires. That also makes sense, and now I'll have to check and see if that was one of the answers.
The wires don't need to be insulated. As long as the birds don't touch anything else, they're OK.
People in helicopters sometimes repair high-voltage power lines - it's the same thing.
