I need to come visit Baltimore again.
::weeps and weeps and weeps::
We'll be in LA for Xmas 2010 - we already booked 3 seats out with miles.
I am an Elizabeth named after no one, but I share my name (first, last) with an aunt who is a law professor. We get each other's (e)mail pretty regularly.
Looks like the guess for Hawaii is 6 foot waves at approximately 4 p.m. EST.
I have a '60s ranch with its original interior knobs and they are shiny brass similar to this [link] I've seen shiny chrome from that era too. I think nonshiny hardware didn't really become prevalent until into the '70s. My mother put wrought iron hardware into the house my parents built in the '50s, but it was considered odd.
I haven't found anything on hardware in the 60's yet, but I did find a slideshow of 73 pink kitchens:

My 1949 house has brass.
Here are some retro renovation blogs:

Sparky, dude, you know that if I am in Baltimore, I will also be invading your house. Have to see baby still, after all.

If you can find an architectural salvage place you can probably get whatever kind of door hardware you want on the cheap.
I love exploring this place. [link]
Timelies all!
Our house only dates back to the 1970s, so no fancy door handles here.
Thanks for all the links. I think the shiny brass-plate may be age appropriate, but I am much more of a chrome girl, so I think a change at some point will have to happen. The house is a 1961, and very much a traditional, not modern for the mid-century style. I love the old smaller real brass ones in my 1930s co-op, and I may buck authenticity to get something like them or glass at some point.
ION I feel like warmed over doo this morning and would like to just stay in bed all day.
Shit.
I think my sister and nieces have to evacuate. They would totally be in the evacuation zone as all of the news is coming out of Ewa Beach, where they live, and their house is across the street from the beach.

And in talking to my mom, my sister + family are evacuating, heading to her in-laws' place who are further inland and uphill. Yoiks. Ewa Beach is exactly where it's going to hit and they believe it will at 11:00. The evacuation bells should ring at 6:00. I hope she's already out.
