Can I give my cat some Benadryl? I think he's being bothered by allergies. I mentioned it to the vet last visit, and he said he'd rather not medicate if it wasn't too bad, but I feel bad for the little guy. He's been unusually quiet tonight, and he keeps, like, starting and then licking himself frantically, just as if he got bitten by something, but there are no bugs on the cat or in the house. He did get outside briefly a couple days ago; maybe he's just allergic to something out in the wild outdoors.
Anyway, yeah. Benadryl for cats, yes/no?

I know it's okay for dogs, but I don't know what the dosage would be for cats.

I know it's okay for them, but not the dosage. And I'd bet it's way, way smaller than the smallest human dose. I'd call your vet, if that is an option. To be sure it's allergies and be sure you have something resembling a safe dosage.

Yes. I do advise talking to your vet about it.
IIRC, my vet told me I could give it to my Harvey at 1 mg per pound of body weight (children's liquid is the easiest way to ensure accuracy, but the flavor is not a cat's favorite). A quick check of the Merck Veterinary Manual puts the dosage at about twice that.
