[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Mmmm...I'll take that under advisement.

Compassionately intolerant

Yeah, that's just a thing babies do. Most newborns these days are swaddled as soon as they're born, but if you just leave them tummy-to-tummy with the mom they'll work their way up to a breast. It's very cool.

I had NO idea this was even possible, but given that we are mammals, I suppose it should not have been a surprise to me. It frankly left me gobsmacked.

I gave the midwife credit for a lot in terms of making the birth such an amazing experience for both the parents.

eta: The most wonderful she did and said was repeating, "Your body knows what to do" every time anyone was tempted to freak out.

The c-section may restricted to what's considered elective, but I'm not sure how many of those there are.

So, they're trying to say that a c-section is elective? I've known a few friends who had to fight their doctors NOT to have a c-section.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Dear Heavens, I'm so skimming this convo. Squeamish.

Exactly. I've heard way more of this than the other way around.

Yeah, I skimmed a lot of it while at work. No clue why I didn't do that at home. No disrespect. A great deal of admiration for those that have done it. I think I'd be the father who passes out in the delivery room. Or loses lunch. Or both.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Wow. Pretty amazing convo today and no way I'll be able to read it all. Um..hi!

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

I loved all your descriptions of giving birth. I'll most likely never do it (EDS and childbirth don't mix well, and I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a mother anyway), but it's reassuring to hear it's not too bad for most people, anyway. My sister had a terrible birth with her first, who just didn't want to come out of there - she was induced when she was two weeks late, and it was all downhill from there. But I'm glad to hear that's not the usual experience!

Happy Birthday, Erin.

Much ma to those who need it.

I spent my day trying to give my RSI a rest by sleeping in. Then reluctantly got up. Went to a city commission mtg tonight to urge them to get the city council to approve a community garden (and to reduce some of the bureaucratic crap that killed the first-ever community garden that started here last year). I got drafted (with another woman) into being an advisor to the commission on this. Now I have to find the cheapest place to get soil tests for toxicity. And on Sunday I'm meeting them at the proposed piece of land to see what would need to happen to make it work for us and for neighbors.

I'm happy to do this but it makes me feel weird at the same time because I haven't had the talk with my parents on what our expectations are about me living under their roof. So there's this part of me that thinks I might be moving in a couple months and shouldn't settle down much or take on responsibilities down here.
