Yay Ireland!
I'm rooting for Ghana and the Netherlands.
Advance warning for grossness: Frankie has
hookworms
. I don't know for how long. So now I'm paranoid that I have them. I don't walk outside barefoot, and I generally don't let him lick my face, but I'm worried that somehow from petting him and then eating, or something, I might be infected. Am I totally nuts?
I might be infected. Am I totally nuts?
Er..speaking as someone who got mange from a dog, no. Those were fun times, let me tell you! 3 dogs and 3 humans all with the mange!

...so I might want to go visit my healthcare professional. Dammit. Don't have time today, long weekend, blah blah.

Well I don't really know about hookworm and how transmissible it is or anything. We all got the mange because one of the dogs had an immuno-suppressant disease at the time and he was way more infected with them than a normal dog would have been.
Was he a sea dog, lisah?
Could you call him a "mangy sea dog?" Because that would be the only fun part of mange.
He was rather piratical! I can't find any pictures of him on flickr but here is a drawing:

We had a song about him.

I read the CDC info page. Mostly humans get them
under their skin
from walking barefoot in infected soil. But it is possible to
inadvertantly swallow larvae
and that's what I'm worried about. I'm waiting for a call back from my clinic as a sanity check.
smonster, I highly recommend laying in a supply of Panacur. It works a treat and is safe for most dogs. I have given it to Bartleby twice this year.
I'm betting that you aren't at risk from cross-exposure, but getting advice is a good idea. Given how hard it is to isolate parasites, I'm not sure what kind of test they'd need.
Please pass along any any info you get about human parasiticals, would you? I have no info on this at all.
Root for The Netherlands, because that's where my brother lives and is in the process of getting citizenship! My brother the Dutch dude!
I told my boss I was going to be very tired today because I didn't get home until 2 last night. It was the Olympians Meet and Greet at Martuni's, and when you get a bunch of actors anywhere near karaoke, it's on. I deliberately took BART to force myself to go home early, but instead I got a ride (from someone who also said he was supposed to leave at 11:30). Which meant I was able to sing "You Oughta Know," which was the only available song I really knew and loved. It was a lot of fun, and I got many high-fives afterward. One girl said I was awesome and got the whole place singing with me. I said that was really Alanis's doing, but she said I also gave a good performance. A lovely Irish girl said I was the "legend of the whole night."
In any case, this reminded my boss to show us a video of her singing "Brick House" in Orlando.
I really love working here.
