I told them that cell phones turn OFF, but they just pooh-poohed me.
It's not like you have to answer them. I fail to answer both my cell and home phones when I don't want to be reached. I consider myself still in control of those choices.
It's one reason I don't ever give out my personal cell number for work reasons. Different unreachability criteria.
I also find that not answering my phone unless I'm in the mood to talk solves this problem quite nicely.

I love my iPhone. Having the Internet right there, in my purse? Best thing ever. Not to mention texting, email, a bunch of books, movies, and music. And a camera!

I just have my cell and many people can attest to me being amazingly unreachable at times. It's for my convenience, not theirs. Of course, YUsageWillTotesVary.
The only bargaining advice I have is you need to be prepared to walk away. If they can't give you the deal you're asking for, you leave
This unintentionally has gotten me great deals. Also, at times, intentionally. But you have to be honestly okay with walking away. I hate conflict but I hate being bullied more.

Continuing thanks for all the ~ma that's been sent the way of The Girl's father. He had an important round of tests today, and things are looking pretty good. After another course of chemo they think they'll be able to operate.
