I'm sorry, dad. You know I would never have tried to save River's life if I had known there was a dinner party at risk.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

I'm not sure I'd take that risk myself

That's the problem. I'm now almost down to 13,000, but that's still a few percent over the 5% upper limit. If that gets me marked down, and pushes me out of the range of a distinction, that could put paid to my ambitions for getting PhD funding. I'm not securely enough into the overall distinction range, with my other results, to risk it. If I were, I absolutely would. (I hate that my ambitions for the next few years, and possibly beyond that, are going to be dependent on a few percentage points in a result for a single dissertation...!)

Talking of papers, how's yours going, Shir?

Wishing you sense-of-humo(u)r~ma, smonster.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Today's special edition of Wake Up With Hugh Laurie is actually Write Papers and/or Melt Your Brain With Stephen Fry: [link]

All is well that ends in pizza.

Planning this is like solving riddles about crossing rivers with a wolf, a goat and a sack of grain.

At least you know it's possible, if convoluted.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Well, crap. I just twisted the hell out of one of my ankles while a ways from home. Luckily, a friend was able to come over and pick me up. Said awesome friend also got me ice, helped me elevate the ankle, brought me ibuprofen, and found my ace bandages. I haven't put that on, yet. Is it something that needs to happen right away? I just found a position that doesn't hurt as much as the others, and I'm loath to disturb it before I have to.

Stupid me—I thought I'd be all healthy and walk down town to do some stuff. Bah.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Bandage ASAP, Calli. You want to limit the opportunity for it to swell. Also, ouch.

Noted and done. And ouch.

I'm so glad I don't live in a 3rd floor walk-up any more. That climb would have sucked.

Ouchies, Calli. Swift healing to your ankle.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Is it swelling a lot, calli? Because that means a sprain and is NOT GOOD. If it is tender and sore but not swelling, it could be a strain, which is also not good, but in a lesser way.

Thanks, y'all.

It hadn't swelled much before I put the ace bandage on it, and there were a good 15-20 minutes between falling and getting my ankle elevated. I've gone a couple rounds with ice and downed some ibuprofen and now it's gone from profanity-inducing to just sore—at least as long as I don't take it off the pillows. I'll unwrap it before it's time for another dose of drugs and see how it's going.

I've got some great localistas, though (as well as very kind buffistae). One neighbor picked me up, brought me home, got all the ice/bandages/pills/random stuff, and is taking on my dog sitting duties. Amyth, from all the way up in NY State, told me where to find crutches if I need them. I have offers for store runs and etc. Basically, if I didn't need to go to the bathroom I could lie here until my ankle healed completely.
