Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

ND, you don't want to do that (wait until you're f2f with them - then it will actually hurt).

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

Hivemind question (I am somehow the dispute arbiter amongst my group)-

Friend A decided to drive to Richmond to attend a wedding. Friend B says "I'll give you gas money if I can ride along". Friend A agrees. Friend C discovers the situation and asks if he can ride along. Friend A says "yes, for gas money". On the way out of town, A stops for gas and it costs $45 to fill up the tank (enough to get there and back). Friends B & C each give A $15, splitting the gas by 3.

A feels that B & C should have paid for all of the gas since A was providing the car and driving services.

I am inclined to agree with A, but think it's his own fault for not saying "it's $22 each" and making his expectations clear. He feels that they "should have known".

Thoughts?

For friendship say -- A should be gracious. I agree that B and C should have split it but --15 dollars seems a bit crazy to get upset about. Esp. since A's original would have no help for gas

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Vortex, I would have expected to split it three ways; they were only supposed to pay their way, not mine! If I were taking them somewhere that I was NOT going anyway, then I'd expect to be paid all the gas money. However, either way, he should have made himself clear; "gas money" to some people means "chip in whatever you can". If I paid what I felt was fair and then he got ticked at me for not paying what HE thought was fair, I'd probably passive-aggressively pay the money to avoid an argument and then never speak to him again.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Exactly. A was going there anyway, right?

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I agree that A needs to drop the matter.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Yeah, 3 ways seems fair, since A was going to go anyway.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Yeah, my general thought is that if the driver was going to be driving there anyway, then the driver and passengers split the gas evenly, but if the driver is just driving there has a favor and has no reason to go there him or herself, then the passenger pays all, plus something extra would be thoughtful. (When I ask someone to drive me out to the kosher store in Rockville, I usually treat the driver to lunch at the restaurant next door and pay for an item or two if they want to get something at the grocery store.)
