Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Indeed, that is majorly awesome, bt. 10000 parents are grinding their teeth with jealousy and they don't know why.
It is true. Wallybee's parents' visa expires in about a month, though, at which point things will change. I'm worried about how he'll cope with it; I think he's going to miss them a lot. (I know we will too.)

Honestly, you'll miss them more than he will. I mean, he will miss them but it won't be traumatic as long as you and the Wallybee are there. Younger kids are pretty flexible about this stuff.
Matilda was with her daycare provider, Maggie, from age 3 months until she was 3+ years and was very close with her. But she made the transition to preschool very easily. Within a week. And now is totally bonded with her teacher there, but that too will be a relatively short term relationship.
They don't really remember all this stuff at this age, though I do believe that all the love goes into them and builds up a sense of trust about people and the world.
My sister wants to know if I want to go with her on a trip to Germany and Austria this summer. I really want to go, but obviously I can't unless I complete and defend my dissertation first. I'm just about positive that I can finish by then, but if my advisor keeps not reading anything, that could set my timeline back a while.
I'm going to try to finish writing this week. We'll see what happens then.
Ryan is indeed very lucky to have you as parents, bt.

Yeah, I know. It's not really till after the age of three that they form permanent memories, though certainly it'll affect their development and their expectations about the world. I expect he'll have a little while feeling like something's amiss though.
The fact that he won't really remember them after a certain point also saddens me of course, after all they've done for him. We'd like them to be able to move out here permanently, but I don't know if it'll happen. It'll either take a decade, or a substantial amount of money.

Wow, that's a long time! That sucks. Will they be able to do more extended stays like they have, or no?
Ahem. I had dinner with the girl from last night. And then went over to her house. Which turns out to be all of maybe half a mile from Barb's new place! Good times were had by all. Heh.
bt, can you video chat with them when they are back in China? Are they from mainland China? or HK? Or Taiwan? At least a video chat will give face time for Ryan and grandparents.

EXCELLENT!
Also, we need to do dinner again.
{{{Shir}}} I'm so sorry to hear about your dog.

meara, I'm doing the woo hoo dance for you right now. Awesome!

bt, I hope you all find a way to get her parents out without ten years or a ton of money.

I have finally finished writing my statement of educational philosophy. WOOT! I need to sleep before I look at it again. I've been wrestling with it all weekend and have no perspective on it at the moment. Wish me luck for tomorrow; I have meetings with the Head of School and my division director to let them know what's going on and ask for a recommendation.

...I read this as the HOO HOO dance. And was a little frightened.
Barb, we totally do. I'm in town for the next two weeks, shockingly! Let's plan...
