My sister wants to know if I want to go with her on a trip to Germany and Austria this summer. I really want to go, but obviously I can't unless I complete and defend my dissertation first. I'm just about positive that I can finish by then, but if my advisor keeps not reading anything, that could set my timeline back a while.
I'm going to try to finish writing this week. We'll see what happens then.

They don't really remember all this stuff at this age, though I do believe that all the love goes into them and builds up a sense of trust about people and the world.
Yeah, I know. It's not really till after the age of three that they form permanent memories, though certainly it'll affect their development and their expectations about the world. I expect he'll have a little while feeling like something's amiss though.
The fact that he won't really remember them after a certain point also saddens me of course, after all they've done for him. We'd like them to be able to move out here permanently, but I don't know if it'll happen. It'll either take a decade, or a substantial amount of money.

bt, can you video chat with them when they are back in China? Are they from mainland China? or HK? Or Taiwan? At least a video chat will give face time for Ryan and grandparents.

I have finally finished writing my statement of educational philosophy. WOOT! I need to sleep before I look at it again. I've been wrestling with it all weekend and have no perspective on it at the moment. Wish me luck for tomorrow; I have meetings with the Head of School and my division director to let them know what's going on and ask for a recommendation.
