I'll tell my sister I "saw it on the board," but my mom will get the generic "I saw this" because if I tell her all the stuff I learn here, she starts to ask "Well, how much time do you spend on that board, anyway?!?"

Here's a question, mostly for the lurkers: how do you refer to stuff you learn here @ b.org to non-buffistas?
I'll attribute if I'm linking to other people in fandom, but generally I just dazzle people with my knowledge without bothering to explain how I learned it. Mostly because half the time it's something I looked up while I was writing slash, like how the original Batman TV series has never been released on VHS or DVD because of complicated legal and rights issues.
Back when being on the internet was weird, my standard way of explaining how I knew a Buffista was "mutual friends".
I'm Vortex, I think that I was the original Stephanie. I started posting in 1997 when you HAD to use your real name on Table Talk. I never minded because my real name is ridiculously common, in fact I had to use my middle initial because there was already one of me on Table Talk.
I found the Buffistas through a side link on an unrelated article that I was reading on Salon, and there went my tribe. I probably lurked for, oh, 5 minutes or so before jumping in, as I am the shy type.
My current moniker is short for "Vortex of Drama", as the drama always seems to be around me, but I'm not actually involved, thank goodness. I'm thinking about changing it, if for no other reason than a consistent online presence, but, you know, effort.
The Buffistas have been with me and there for me through good times and bad, like when I was working for the evil law firm fondly referred to as "Wolfram and Hart East" or the recent loss of my father (the love that poured through the interwebs was palpable and helped more than you all will ever know).
I love olives and muffulettas (I was just in NO and had the original muffuletta at Central Grocery), cilantro (although I once had it in a Thai restaurant where it was soapy, but that was an aberration (and a scare, I thought that you all had ruined cilantro for me forever) ), and the serial comma.
I am confused by this one space after sentences thing, this is the first I've ever heard of it. I'm old school, two spaces, man! But, I full justify everything, so spacing is relative to me anyway.
Even though I voted for the thread (does anyone else want to know who the lone "no" was?), I forgot it was here until billytea got COMMed, and waded through the 400 plus posts to get here.
I'm known for my quick wit (by me at least), my fearsome temper if you have wronged me or someone I love, my spoiler nazi tendencies, my impeccable taste in food and drink (especially drink), and last, but not least, my prodigious boobage (see tagline).
I have had 4 Buffistas sleep in my bed at once! It was AWESOME.
I was on that bed, and it was, indeed, FG.
I was on that bed, and it was, indeed, FG.
I will be sad when that mattress has to go to the Great Landfill In The Sky. I may need a posse of Buffistas to help me test out new ones.
Vortex, you forgot your drinking abilities.

They are, indeed, a sight of majesty.
Vortex is also known for her superb taste in drinks. I have learned the way of the Three Olives, and never again shall I stray.
(I had something made with the Three Olives Mango Vodka the other day, and oh, man. SO GOOD. And I *must* try the TO Cherry with Coke.)
smonster, remember getting pumpkin ice cream at Graeter's? (Actually, did you get the pumpkin? I know I did, because I'm a whore for all things pumpkin.)
I have never met Steph L, that I can recall, but I tried to when I went to Cincy. But she brushed me off and I sent her a birthday GC from Graeter's!
But she brushed me off

You were there the one day that we were sending the journal to the printer, which can't happen without me. (That does sound like an I'm-washing-my-hair brush-off, doesn't it? You just happen to visit on the one day out of 30 that I cannot leave the office? But it's true!)
The worst part was that your meeting was in the neighborhood that I lived in at the time -- you would have been 5 minutes away from me, had I not been washing my hair laying out a journal.
I'm just giving you crap. I think it was your birthday and you were having lunch with your dad, too, right?
Vortex, you forgot your drinking abilities.
fixed! although I tried to make it about quality, not quantity :)
