Hi, I’m Shari_H and I’ve been lurking consistently and posting rarely for a loooong time – since TableTalk days, through the forests of WorldCrossing, to the homely house of the Phoenix Board. I don’t think I’ve ever introduced myself before.
I believe that a house is primarily a place to store all your books, that Han shot first, that LOTR should be re-read often, that Buffy and Angel were great television, that Tim Minear is amazing (not to mention Joss!), and that the people here are cool.
I read BeepMe, COMM, Natter, and Bitches several times a week and definitely feel like I know a lot of people here, although only Nilly has ever heard from me off-board. My timing is generally bad. I’ve never managed a DC F2F or meet-up. I was visiting in NY when Nilly was in DC and was in DC when Nilly arrived in NY. When I see something on a thread that I’d like to chime in on, I’m usually days too late to respond. That last is why I’m so much more lurker than poster.
Although I’m comfortably within the 45+yo, married with kids group around here, I think I’m a bit of on outlier in board demographics in certain ways. I’m an Orthodox Jewish full-time-working mother of 6 (aged from 20yo down to 7yo) and a politically-active conservative Republican. I have no opinion on muffulettas because I’ve kept kosher for 20+ years and have never eaten one. I am a firm believer in serial commas. I trained in taekwondo for several years, reaching the red belt (two steps from black) in an all-women’s class, despite being a spatially-challenged bookworm. ita is my martial arts hero.
Lurking around Buffistas has often felt like I was eavesdropping on a meeting of the Algonquin Roundtable. I’ve learned a great deal from the people here and value the humor, wit, and compassion of this community. It’s not too far past Rosh Hashana for me to say: may this year be a wonderful one for all Buffistas and their loved ones.
