I love this fucking thread!
Welcome lwa!
Hi! I'm Rayne. I haven't posted here in ages, but I lurk all the time, so figured this would be a good time to delurk.
I used to provide super secret underground scripts for Buffy, Angel, Firely and Wonderfalls.
I moved to Los Angeles from Ohio a couple years ago and recently moved from Westwood to El Segundo (right next to LAX... go airplanes!) I need a job.
I mostly lurk in the tv threads (you guys got me addicted to BSG and SYTYCD!) literary, etc. I'm oddly addicted to the gaming thread.
Now that I've delurked, maybe I'll actually start posting in the threads I read!
Hi Rayne! I remember you from back in the day, or at least you being referenced.
And I recogonize ThomasW, who is NOT the TomW who is married to Nora.
Happy re-de-lurking to Rayne and ThomasW (both of whom I remember but haven't seen in way too long)
Rayne, Still dig that tagline...
Thomas, Seriously? We're funny enough without L'amour Buffy? And I thought I was the group's unlikeliest member what with all the "Bodies? Cool! and the fact that I thought I would have to apply for asylum for being non-geeked about Star Trek 3.0. Wanna hug it out?(I still must lobby for the next BUreau being "Bitches Hug It Out..." it's a long shot, but I'm compelled to ask.)
Rayne! I also remember, Thomas W. I think. The memory is not what it used to be. I'm also high on cough syrup.
I came to the board in late 2002 by following some kind of Firefly-related link. I had been hooked by Buffy since Cordelia said, "I see you've seen the softer side of Sears." The warmth and comradeship of b.org was something I needed very much at that time, and I will be forever grateful.
I have been a writer, magazine editor and Web designer for many years, mostly for electricity-related companies. In 1998, I had a terrible vision of the decades of staff meetings ahead of me and left my job to start my own company. These days I write a column about energy for a local utility; do some Web design and content; and look for new clients, since my old ones have been heavily affected by the dismal economy. I live in the Atlanta area with thousands of books in a house run by a Jack Russell-Corgi mix named Mr. Peabody.
I was a moderately active in SF fandom in the '70s and '80s and my first online fandom was rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.
I am a terrible procrastinator, which is why I have an ABD and not Ph.D. in English literature. My area of study was late 19th century American, and I have been known to go on at length about Hawthorne, Melville and my personal obsession, Henry Adams, as well as about my loathing for Henry James. I have written to AP Style since my writing was done on a Royal Standard, and I am therefore unable to use the serial comma.
I am found mostly in Bitches, Great Write, Literary, Jossverse, Minearverse, Tech and Procedurals. My current state of not enough work means I'm currently caught up in Natter.
Oooh, welcome lw, ThomasW and Rayne! New peeps to me!
Aw, Rayne! Man, it's been an age.
Hi! I’m a “forced” lurker due to work/life busy-ness. Loved Buffy from the first shot of Xander on a skateboard.
I’m a resident of suburban Los Angeles (Torrance to be exact. South Bay represent!). 4th generation Californian, a rarity, almost everybody is from somewhere else. 52 years old, married, 2 kids ages 18 and 13. We used to live on a 50-foot boat in Marina del Rey but my MiL was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last year so we had to move into her house to care for her. I’m still adjusting to that. It’s been a process, that’s for sure. It’s surprising that this has been a larger adjustment than going from a 1,000 sq foot house to the boat. I work for a small-ish company tangentially related to the entertainment industry which keeps me very busy but I love it tons. It’s very nice to like going to work again. I used to have a soul sucking job at DHL which was affectionately called by my children “DH-Hell.
I found Buffistas way back on WX by following a Tim post that got shared on the net. I sorta lurked at the original Bronze and the Beta, but Buffistas is home. The only good thing about DHL was that it allowed me to post a bit more regularly and hang out with the LA-istas, but now? Not so much. I check Beep Me and Press every day and try to catch up with the show threads at least once a week. I try to keep up in Natter and Bitches but sometimes that’s a lost cause.
