Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I know I'm shocked.

I didn't say it was often.

Extinct New Zealand eagle may have eaten humans

BANGKOK — Sophisticated computer scans of fossils have helped solve a mystery over the nature of a giant, ancient raptor known as the Haast's eagle which became extinct about 500 years ago, researchers said Friday.

The researchers say they have determined that the eagle – which lived in the mountains of New Zealand and weighed about 40 pounds (18 kilograms) – was a predator and not a mere scavenger as many thought.

Much larger than modern eagles, Haast's eagle would have swooped to prey on flightless birds – and possibly even the rare unlucky human.

Since the Haast's eagle has only been extinct for 500 years, it'd probably be easier to genetically engineer a live one than a live velociraptor. So we'll just have to make do with Haast's eagles for a while....

I bet you could put a little saddle on a Haast's eagle for Clovis to sit on....

hip deep in pie

There must have been something in the air, since I had a terrible night's sleep. But I am off today, so I can't complain.

I just got back from getting my hair cut and coloured. Great, but terrible tip anxiety. I bought product and then couldn't do the math...I think I undertipped.

billytea's closer to the source. Plus it's right up his alley.

However, he might try to crossbreed something else into it. Echidna, perhaps?

It's been speculated that the Taung Child (australopithecus africanus skull discovered by Raymond Dart in the 1920s) had been scooped up by a big predatory bird for dinner.

Sue, I got my hair cut yesterday. Didn't color it - I've let it grow back to its natural color and it isn't too bad. She did straighten it, making it all smooth and sleek looking. Not bad, but not something I could do on my own.

Not one person at work has said a thing. So either no one pays attention to me or it looks really bad.
