Our wings are not tired.

Yes, Cashmere. That describes my feelings as well. I was worried when I checked the county website because I knew I would have to don the battle dress if they weren't showing the broadcast to my students. Phew! I dislike that it was a concern in the first place.

Yeah, I just don't get people. But that's not new.

I'm staying in tonight, my first night of unemployment, even though I want to go have drinks because I have no drinking buddies. BUT, I do have the Vividcon DVDs from Katie, plus I hope there's a new Psych.

Tomorrow, I'm going to visit my sister at the beach until Monday morning. The rest of Monday, I'll mentally prepare for New Work on Tuesday. Well, not all day.

Huh. I was looking for the text of the George H.W. Bush speech that I remembered from sixth grade, and I found out that it was in October 1991, when I was in fifth grade. I definitely remember watching something like that in sixth grade, though -- I remember which classroom I was in. This is going to bug me.

Now tagless for your comfort.

ION I bought Viewmaster Viewers for the kids. How fun are they still? Lots! I'm now looking for all kinds of cool discs for them.

Nothing on our school district's website, which is a good sign. I haven't heard any huffing and puffing around the school, either.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Not looking, but I vote KILL IT. Just to be safe.

I second this.

I respect the office.

Dude, yes. When Reagan died, I watched them fly his body in and the procession to his library to be buried. I did not respect the man, but I respect the OFFICE.

According to the Washington Post [link] , the list of possible discussion questions and related assignments given to teachers originally included having kids write letters about "what they could do to help the President." I can see how that could be seen as problematic. But that is the only reasonable objection that I have seen to this entire thing, and they changed that suggestion after people complained -- it now says to have students write about how they can achieve their educational goals.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I mean, I wouldn't relish George W. Bush reading My Pet Goat to my kids but I wouldn't keep them home from school if he was going to do it.

This. Living in a democracy with free speech means that sometimes people will get elected who you don't like. The solution is not not to stick your head in the ground and scream ZOMG SOCIALIST BRAINWASHING!!!1!!!!11!

But surely that would be an excellent opportunity for young wingnuts to learn to spell "impeachment"? These people just aren't thinking creatively enough.
