You're wrong about River. River's not on the ship. They didn't want her here, but she couldn't make herself leave. So she melted... Melted away. They didn't know she could do that, but she did.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

is it possible the loonies haven't yet thought to incorporate ACORN into the whole death boards thing?

They're already saying that part of the health care reform is to feed money into the hands of ACORN and other community "radical groups."

Anybody have a link to a good summary of what the healthcare reform actually means?

The White House has this.

Daily Show was very funny with the healthcare stuff tonight! Loved the panel o' pundits with Samantha, Aasif, and John O.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Wow. Just wow. This is beautiful.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

That is really incredible

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Oh, I could totally do that. Totally.

(Wow.)

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Feel better, Juliebird. Hope you'll find that doctor's number ASAP.

So, remember a while ago here we were talking about the restaurant in SF where all the dishes have names like "I am empowered," and you have to order by saying "I am empowered" and then the waiter responds "You are empowered"?

I'm so using this next time when I'll need a good example of social construction.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Shir, here's their menu. [link] I've heard from several people who've gone there that they actually won't serve you if you don't order that way. If you say something like, "I'll have the empowered," the waiter will respond, "Do you mean you are empowered?" and this will continue until you say "I am empowered."

The kids menu is things like "I am a winner" and "I am a star" and "I am a hero."

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I'll have the, I am never eating there.

(Hey, that felt kinda good.)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

How about "I am empowering my ass right out of this restaurant." as a reply. I might go there just to do that. Any good restaurants nearby to get their perplexed overflow?

Father will be here in three weeks. Oh, yay.

Job I thought sounded like it had potential--the guy won't get back to me after what felt like a convivial interview, which is punkish bad form, even if they're still in the decision making process and don't have a yes or a no yet.

Updated my migraine blog for the first time in millenia, and then poked around OkCupid and answered some solicitations, which is just weird. I think Allyson has inspired me. Problem is, too broke to date. I'd have to be "that" girl, and I don't like her too much.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Fortunately I'm past the dating stage, but I am too broke to go out drinking. However, this inspired me to look up cocktail recipes based on What's In the Liquour Cabinet and discovered the Perfect Brandy Manhattan.

As with the Perfect Martini, the "perfect" appellation means there's sweet vermouth involved.

So...

1 oz. Brandy (or in this case Cognac)
0.5 oz. Sweet vermouth
0.5 oz. Dry vermouth.

I improved it by adding the juice of a whole, very sweet, small mandarin orange. Also it benefits from being very cold. But quite yum!

ION, Emmett finished his Little League career today. Next year he's in Juniors which is not Little League. His last at bat as a Little Leaguer? Home run. Which was especially sweet since the hits were not much falling this summer for him. Even better his coach put him on the mound, and he had a dominant inning pitched with two strikeouts. This is only significant because he had a terrible/wild outing his last time on the mound in the regular season playoffs where I had to pull him in the first inning. So it definitely washed the bad taste of that outing away.
