Nicole, I think I started out with 100 yds in one go, 2 laps at a time (25 yd pool), building up as my endurance improved. Managed only 8 laps the first day, I think. Always one more? Took me a week to get up to 16 laps total, with breaks. I was up to a mile within a month, though not sure how continuous that was. Just whatever worked. All sorts of swim training has you doing intervals, but that's not my thing. I like going for the endurance and the zone out, so maybe not the most efficient workout, but one that serves me.

What colors?
Yoga-ta Get This Blue - OPI Green-wich Village - OPI Ruby Slippers - China Glaze
These are on top of the three I brought home from vacation. No more polish for me for a while.
Thanks, sara. That gives me a good idea of how hard to push during my try-out to see if it's something I might be able to stick with.
I want something that I can just zone out doing without parts of my body tingling like they're falling asleep. On the elliptical (or treadmill or stair climber) my feet fall asleep. On the recumbent bike my ass falls asleep. I'm hoping swimming plays nicely with my rotator cuff and gives stretch more than pain. And no falling asleep.
No more polish for me for a while.
If you have any colors you don't like, just let me know. I'd be happy to take them off your hands, probably. I have to cut back on the mani/pedis and hair appts for a little while, thanks to the unexpected kitty expenses last month. I wouldn't even be thinking about the gym membership except it's either that or new clothes in the next size up.
If you take a Loki outside after he's been crying at the door for an hour, and it is flurries, it's a little like holding a meth addict in front of a hit. OMG, he was losing his mind!
OK, bed now.
Nicole, I just recommend doing what feels ok. I'd been a dedicated swimmer before, knew I loved the zone out of endurance and the burble of the water. For me, exercise only works if I like it, and thankfully, I like the long swim or a good walk (when the weather isn't shitty.)
I do have a couple of sparkly ones that were impulse buys and I haven't touched them since. But I don't recall you liking the glitter. Lee, count me in on the polish exchange thing.
How is Ashton doing? K-Bug asked me about him and I remember you taking him to the vet and getting tests run, but that is it.
Wow sarameg, I have new found awe of your swimming.
I'm in decent enough shape strength-wise thanks to my stretching, but need to find some kind of cardio that doesn't fill me with pain, rage, and loathing. I HATE running, and I'm a crappy swimmer and even worse cyclist. I suppose I can go back to the elliptical at the gym, but I'm not sure I can do that for an hour at a time. Gah.
It was a dumb idea, having kids at my age. Now I have to stay healthy for them.
For me, exercise only works if I like it
That used to be me. Now I just want to find something that doesn't cause further muscle / tendon damage. I loved to swim when I was younger so we'll see how it goes.
How is Ashton doing?
He's doing a lot better now. Basically we spent 2 grand and still don't know why he stopped eating in the first place. BUT at least he's home and I'm able to coax him to eat most of the time. He probably just doesn't want that nasty feeding tube put in again, not that I blame him.
I know BOTH those feelings! (Mister Kitty and his travails.) If you loved swimming, definitely give it a go. If you still love it, it feels great.
OK, really to bed now. All the sleep today wasn't enough, I imagine.
Lee, count me in on the polish exchange thing.
No one else seemed interested. I could send you some more though!
