The town I grew up in didn't have any stores by the time I was old enough to go to them. The grocery store was open until 9 pm and 6 pm on Sundays.

I think it was in Mass., when I grew up.

Malls were definitely open on Sundays (even in Mass.), not package stores though.

Heh. I think for the subtlety -- you got your booze in a brown paper package? But I don't actually know.

Also, I had a friend in high school whose boyfriend was nicknamed "Packy" like the liquor store, and no one thought there was a problem with that!

Mass. is crazy. Even in my youth, package stores there were open until 10 pm, not 8 pm, as in the ever-more-civilized Conn.

It was not until 1994 that businesses in Massachusetts were allowed to open before noon on Sundays.
