I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I got DDR for the wii, and, as my ankle is still screwed up a bit, I'm letting my niece, nephew, and potential nephew-in-law go to town with it. It's fun to see them moving around to songs from my teenage years.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

The good: My Farscape complete series DVDs have arrived, and every episode has commentaries that are as enjoyable as those on the Wonderfalls DVDs (i.e. better than the commentaries for any other series I've ever seen).

The bad: The quick scene cuts, brilliant contrast and lighting, and warbling alien-sounding music are probably the least compatible things to view while enjoying the extra-strength migraine Santa left me as a gift today.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Everybody sounds so cozy! It's wonderful. And the kids are cute.

H is making bacon and eggs for lunch--bacon is great anytime, right?--and we're basking in carols and each other's company. We don't do a big Day dinner--apostasy, I know--but it works for us. The phone works, and StY is happy and so are the kids, so we're well pleased with the holiday this year.

Epic, all the mom~ma in the world to you and her.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

all gifts have now been opened and despite mac refusing to eat lunch, I think we have made it through 2 days with no real rough patches. I can feel that I am not yet over being whiney, but I am going to try to keep it to myself. I know I upset my mom earlier by telling her what was really going on, so I am going to stop sharing so much.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Creepy Victorian Santa

Children of the Victorian Era had to be tough, because this Santa Claus would have given me nightmares! This picture is a detail of a larger family portrait from Flickr user stevechasmar. For sheer weirdness, it just might beat out the previous creepy Santa post. See more Victorian Christmas ephemera in his photostream. Link

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Merry Christmas everybody!

We have had a great one so far. Many toys have been played with. Including skateboards for all the kids courtesy of my brother. And so far, no tears. That last part is shocking.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I know I upset my mom earlier by telling her what was really going on

I'm sorry that you can't share with her without stressing her out.

Funeral is next Saturday. I've booked my ticket. Last time I was in New Orleans it was for a funeral. I'm beginning to have negative associations. Also, I have nothing to wear. Even though I don't have to dress in black, I don't know if I have anything that feels appropriate and somber, because I wear black so much anyway.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I am back in my own apartment, watching A Christmas Story, which is lovely. My mother would have liked for me to spend the night there again, but I slept like shit and didn't bring any more clothes or anything. So I said I'd go back there tomorrow. I think we're going to see Sherlock Holmes.

My Christmas was lovely -- Christmas Eve with family, then church, today was mostly just the four of us (me, parents, grandmother) with the traditional quick visit from some friends. Very nice, all the way around. Singing in the choir was great.

I'm glad you're going, ita. And hope you get back to NO for good times before too much longer.
