I'm sorry, ita. Peace and strength to your cousin and family.

That's very not right, ita.
Laura, you're making Kahlua?
I just bought my parents a llama and a goat. I feel very lame about my gift skills this year, but this is one I'm happy to give and frankly, would love it if it became a thing in my family. It will for me. Hell, I adopted bats for Mother & Father's days....
I'm sorry, ita. How awful for your cousin and her daughter.
Laura, how do you make Kahlua (if you don't mind sharing)?
Remind me the website for that?
We're having drama, and I'm seriously pissed at someone who I still need to buy a gift for. I would really love to buy a jackass if I can.
Ooh, or maybe I can find a zoo that will let me adopt a polar bear? That would be even better.
The recipe I am using is:
Ingredients:
* 6 cups sugar
* 6 cups water
* 20 teaspoons instant coffee
* 1/2 gallon vodka
* 12 teaspoons pure vanilla
Directions
1. Mix sugar, water, coffee together and bring to slow boil.
2. Turn heat down and simmer 1 hour.
3. Remove from heat, cover liquid with plastic wrap.
4. Let sit for 12 hours, then remove wrap.
5. Add vodka and vanilla, stir well.
6. Bottle in dark bottles.
7. Drinkable immediately.
We are also making Irish Cream, but that is faster and easier because you just toss the stuff in a blender. Yummmm
There are a number of variations out there for the Kahlua. The time to simmer varies quite a bit. 1-3 hours really. When it has reduced about a third and coats the spoon nicely it is ready to add the booze. You can use rum instead of vodka. Cheapest stuff you find because the strong coffee and sugar taste overwhelms the vodka.
You can half or double the recipe. I bought some pretty bottles at a consignment shop and am giving the Kahlua as presents to some boozers on my list.
eta: The recipe I am using for the Irish Cream is here - [link] - I've had a number of offers for tasting, including my boys. I'll need to hide the stuff.
Thanks, Laura!
It's Heifer International: [link] No jackasses, but you could buy a bunch of shares of a water buffalo and mentally have it be the hind end share...
I'm sure there is a donkey rescue out there...for some reason, I think there's a sort of vet-without-borders thing in Morocco. Or maybe Egypt. India? Free/reduced veterinary care for the city/nation's workhorses, the donkey... Gimme a minute.
