Giles: Stop that, you two. Riley: He started it... Xander: He called me a bad name! I think it was bad; it might have been Latin.

I just watched the 787 make its maiden takeoff.

That looks like a nice plane.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What's the debit/credit surcharge to businesses? I feel guilty using cards for small purchases because I'm sure the vendor is being dinged disproportionately.

And for some reason I don't think to pay by credit or debit when I get sent a bill in the mail. That's just habit. I just have very few ad hoc bills these days.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

787:

Why should we care? 50% of this plastic plane is made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, and 15% of it is made of aluminum, making it a lot lighter than other airplanes, giving it 20% better fuel efficiency than comparably sized planes. It's not sacrificing speed for efficiency — it zips along at the same speeds as today's fastest airliners, Mach 0.85, or around 647mph.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Norway is the future!

That would explain the wormhole.

It looks like a group is trying to sue under the North Carolina law that bars atheists from public office, headed up by a former local NAACP president. They'll never win, but I think it's pretty tasteless to do it.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

What's the debit/credit surcharge to businesses?

It varies, but I can't remember the actual facts -- one way they pay a flat fee, the other they pay a percentage-based fee. At least that's what they told me at my old hairdresser's.

That's why they want to eliminate checks -- banks just have to pay to process them themselves, but using plastic carries a fee.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I was in Norway last week to serve as a dissertation opponent

Do you get to jump up and yell, "Sir, I object!"?

Direct deposit carries a fee too - I know the old board looked into accepting paperless maintenance payments from shareholders but decided it would be too expensive.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

What's the debit/credit surcharge to businesses?

Last I was privy to that information, there was a per-transaction charge for credit but not for debit. That was the better part of a decade ago.

Oh, I'm wrong, I am still privy. My brother's store doesn't get charged per-transaction at all, just a flat rate on total throughput, but that is by arrangement with an intermediary between him and the credit card companies.

There's a restaurant I go to that won't accept either debit or credit cards for transactions under $10.
