I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I handle the finances for my coop and we pay almost everything by check so there's a clear paper trail. But I haven't carried my checkbook in my purse since college.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Americans are the weirdos when it comes to spelling, damn it.

Thanks to Noah Webster, right? I think it's fascinating that one guy basically made all of the changes in American spelling.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Quick quiz: Most people can name the first video shown on MTV (well, mostly people who remember watching MTV ever). Can you name the first video uploaded on YouTube?

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Can you name the first video uploaded on YouTube?

Was it of a cat?

I'm gonna guess a cat singing the Numa Numa song.

If it's the way America spells it, then it's the right way to spell it.

I have no idea what the first video on MTV was, so I'm unqualified to answer the question.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I rarely write checks, but there are times when you have to. My cleaning person, for example. I don't want to have to have cash on hand for stuff like that, and she doesn't accept credit/debit cards.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I just got signed up to pay my power bills electronically, so rent is the only paper cheque I need to cut. But some of the electronic payments did fake cheques up to the point of asking me for a cheque number along with my bank and account number information, which was annoying. I hate voiding the paper if I didn't have to mail it anywhere.

I could set up my bank to pay my rent, in which case they cut the cheque and I don't have to order any of my own. But then I can't fiddle faddle and delay the payment date. Which, responsibly, I shouldn't. But I do anyway. Because I'm lazy like that.

And, yeah, Steph, I'd have spelt it like that anyway.
