Pretty much what meara said - my BF was an IT recruiter. They have a lot of people flake on them, so they want to minimize that sort of thing. Also, the more they know you the better they can help you, etc.

Sure! It's in her interest for you to do as well as possible in the interview, so if she has prior experience with the company she may have valuable info about their culture, etc.
