"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Hee.

We have a promptness problem, too, bred of years of people being late to stuff like rehearsals.

But yeah, we've a) been early to peoples' stuff and b) gone and driven around the block a couple of times to be on time. Usually if we're not clear on the directions we give ourselves extra time, and then we're early.

Worst was when we threw a dinner party and had (sort of mistakenly) invited one last couple. And told them an entire hour later than we told everyone else. And thought that was the right time, so were not at all ready when everyone showed up an hour before. But they were all there at once! So it was clear it was our mistake and not theirs. Oops.

Err, didn't mean to hee at your sigh, sara! Bummer for your bash. More booze for you?

hip deep in pie

I had a friend in university who "didn't deal in time frames." He once offered to cook for a dinner party at our house. (I was living w for other girls.) Everyone arrived at 7:30. He showed up at 11 to start cooking.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

My family can never accurately predict the traffic to my uncle's house, so we're always either late or killing time in Dunkin Donuts. Oops.

For a party, I definitely try to time my lateness based on who I know will be there and my relationship with the host -- like, do I want to be first and just hang out with the host or not.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm sorry, sara. Summer parties can be difficult to throw.

OK, how long has Michael Bloomberg been out of eastern Mass? I'm pretty sure it's been long enough that he shouldn't be calling the president "Obamer" like I think I just heard.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Lots of booze, sara.

I might join you--I came home to find a jury summons in the mail (although it is for a standby juror, so I might not have to go downtown; fingers crossed) and my freezer door wide open. I must have nudged it this morning when I put my water in the fridge (although I can't imagine how), because everything in there is warm as can be. Ugh. At least I just have to pitch out two boxes of individually-wrapped chicken breasts and the free box of burgers from Omaha Steaks. The bags of fruits and veggies and the cans of juice concentrate will refreeze.

Eh, I'll live. Besides, lisah and bob came by and then got my neighbor over, so it was good. Better than good, actually. Very good company!

And I've had a bit of wine. And I don't care.

“Not dead yet!”

I just pulled banana bread with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups out of the oven. The house smells wonderful.
