Saffron: But we've been wed. Aren't we to become one flesh? Mal: Well, no, uh... We're still two fleshes here, and I think that your flesh ought to sleep somewhere else.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Just need to rant.

I think I am not long for my current job.

We are in a financial crisis and new boss lady, who started out all calm and serene and we were hoping to be blanketed by that calm serenity, is now putting the squeeze on all the rest of us and micro-managing and control-freaking. Rather than, you know, raising funds and making any kind of stand with the board. And making any sort of opinion for herself that doesn't come from the former ED and other various old blue blood who don't know what it's like in the trenches.

My immediate supe is being thrown under the bus, and everything he has taught me about my position is in direct contradiction to new boss lady's expectations, and apparently those including sharing a brain with my immediate supe. I haven't done the job I was hired to do in three weeks, because I've been fetching her sticks.

I'm just sad that this isn't going down in late winter, when my industry is hiring. Because as much as I have hopes and dreams for this place, and have invested a lot of creative energy, and therefore love, into this place, I'd love to leave them in the fucking lurch. Rather than hoping that I don't get sacked before Christmas and end up bagging at the grocery store.

Oh, yeah, I'm living hand to mouth and am expected to finish my degree while working 60 hour weeks for what amounts to 12 a salaried hour including weekends and holidays and also learn my directors job in and out so I can answer her questions she couldn't wait a day to ask him personally.

I'm almost relieved that I've been given an incentive to find a better job. It's just really sad that this potentially good job at this beautiful place that had the potential to be a great job that got even better because of my input has become so . . . vile.

Who knows, maybe me and bossman will run off and form our own company. Maybe I'll land a job at the garden two miles down the road that has State salary and benefits.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Bad news: I'm in debt again.

Good news: I have a car I can call my own again. [link]

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Congrats, gris! And dcp, may it run well for you.

Juliebird, I'm so sorry -- I saw my old company go through that sort of chaos and bad decisions before I was laid off (and it continued after, according to my ex-coworkers, most of whom have also been laid off since.) Mentally preparing yourself for leaving is probably the best you can do.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Tonight we're going to see Cheryl Wheeler and Christine Lavin at the Birchmere. Should be good.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Congrats Gris!

Does anyone know if you can light a furnace pilot light without a fireplace clicky lighter? I have a regular lighter. And some spaghetti which I could use if I knew how to light it on fire.
