Don't you just love this party? Everything's so fancy, and there's some kind of hot cheese over there.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

I have Columbus Day off, but I work for the federal government. So, no surprise there.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Zombie Street Fashion

On Saturday night, I staggered over to downtown Minneapolis for the 5th annual Zombie Pub Crawl, a celebration of creative horror makeup and playful kitsch. I'd gone to the Crawl once before, in 2007. On that outing, it was enough to just show up in (blood covered) street clothes and zombie makeup. This year, however, featured some fabulous new directions in themed zombies. Thanks to the excellent work of my friend and photographer Leah Shaffer, I'm able to bring you a sampling of the Twin Cities' finest in zombie couture...

What do we want?
Brains!
When do we want 'em?
Brains!

One caption:

This may well have been the creepiest costume of the evening.

describes a photo of an Oompah Loompah zombie shot through the forhead....

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I have Columbus day off. I have thus far cleaned the bathroom, cleaned and vaccuumed my bedroom (honestly can't remember the last time I did that, and the cloud of dust that came out of the vaccuum when I turned it on says a looooong time). I was going to make a roast for dinner, but it is still almost entirely frozen, even though I took it out of the freezer yesterday morning. Oh, well. I'll make a potato gratin with ham and gouda instead of the mashed potatoes and roast beef that I was planning on.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Actually, I bet Hec is merely indifferent to this site....

So you'd think. But I clicked, looked and gave a single low chortle.

Emmett has Columbus Day off, except it's just noted as a Teacher's Planning day. Teachers were used to their Columbus Days off around here, I guess, because they always still get it off but in disguise.

At Emmett's kindergarten it was "Indigenous Persons Day." There was also some celebration of the moon dealie around Veteran's Day.

Anyway, Emmett is very happily returned to his mother's house with his brand new, just available copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. Which will be all the rage among the middle school set.

It's a phenomenon! Not quite up to Rowling standards, but there was eager awaiting.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Good luck with the job stuff, Jess.

I hope ita's having a good day.

My day has been bananas. Put Owen on the bus at 8:30, took Liv to preschool at 9, stayed for her swim lesson, left to volunteer at Owen's classroom from 10-11, picked Liv up from school at 11:30, went to the gym to work out at 1 and am now prepping for a board meeting at 5.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

brand new, just available copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

I do hope that the barcode on this book scans with our register scanner, as opposed to the most recent book in the series, which I always have to key in. It's a first-world complaint, but it is a PITA.
