I found this from the link interesting:
His role on Gormenghast as the self-serving cruel Steerpike, earned Jonathan’s character this fitting description: “His body gave the appearance of being malformed but it would be difficult to say exactly what gave it this gibbous quality. Limb by limb, it appeared that he was sound enough, but the sum of these several members accrued to an unexpectedly twisted total. “
Dammit, now I'm mad I missed
Gormenghast....
It's on DVD.
Ooh, I almost forgot that I live in an age where entertainment is recorded for people to play back later. Huzzah!
I'll also note that Peake's original illustrated draft is amazing.
See, I didn't make the connection at the time that Steerpike was Slade from
Velvet Goldmine....
Well, it was pretty easy to mistake him for Toni Collette's reflection in that movie.
Speaking of amazing things, I was in megan walker's neighborhood yesterday poking around at Kayo Books.
I walked by the restaurant Fly - which is on her block - and they were having Happy Hour all day, including half off on their little gourmet 10 inch pizzas. So I got a Pisco Sour ($5) and an extremely delicious white pie for $4.50. I mean, this pizza would've been a great deal at $9, but it was a steal at that price. Very thin, perfect crust, mozza, gorgonzola and carmelized onions. (No red sauce, of course.)
I bought an extra one to go to feed JZ.
Also, this morning the omelets came out
especially
well. The key being the lots and lots of butter I cooked them in. Feta and Italian herbs.
::makes the Pooh-bear lipsmacking sound::
JRM and Bowie - yes. Adrien Brody - GROSS!
Are you counting that final running scene in Bend It Like Beckham?
Hahaha - exactly my thoughts.
