I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

The job that's been interviewing and background checking me wants someone to start on October 5th. That means, as of today, they have one week to get in touch with me, make an offer, and have me accept it. If it's acceptable.

t twiddles thumbs

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

UGH, Dana.

I just got excused from jury duty, which means I don't have to jump in my car and drive 30 miles to South San Francisco to be there by 1:00 this afternoon, which could have been what happened.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Woot!! Mom just called with the "good news"--she got the check she'd been waiting for from the executor of her godmother's estate. She had no clue how much it was going to be, but told me that if it was "sufficient," she'd give me enough to take the first few classes of my MLS program I'm applying for to start in January. Well, it was enough to take that worry off my mind!

Now I just have to get the application in, and then after I take the first class, I can submit it to my office here for reimbursement (they're reimbursing up to $5K per year for an approved graduate degree, and since I work in the corporate library, an MLS is approved!). I don't have to worry about applying for a student loan now--such a relief.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That's great, Kathy!

I just bit into a juicy peach, and now I feel like it's not really work-appropriate. Ah well.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I just went to KFC. They're doing "market research," which involved them interviewing customers with a video camera.

I turned down the chance, as I just wasn't in the mood to be videoed on my lunch break. I could have gotten a $10 coupon if I had agreed. Now I almost with I had, just to fuck with them. Like, I could have twitched noticeably every time they said, "KFC."

“Not dead yet!”

Excellent, Kathy!

Pertaining somewhat to the discussion of middle school and sexuality, IFunnyAbbyN: We were watching Dancing With the Stars last week and Ashley Hamilton (George's son) was a competitor. When he came on, Abby was all, "Oh Mom, he's just soooo handsome. What a good looking man!"

Then he danced.

And she was like, "Oh, no... he's very handsome, but he just can't dance. Oh Ashley, no. Don't do anything. Just stand there and look handsome."

I was howling. My daughter has inherent understanding of the "Don't talk. Just sit there and look pretty," maxim at the age of eleven. (Okay a month shy of twelve, but still...)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Via io9, Kevin Van Aelst does really awesome math/science photos. For instance:

Mitosis...with donuts

Yin-yang...Oreo

The world...in an apple core

Chromosomes...with gummi worms

Hawaii...from Hawaiian Punch

Coding and Sleeping

Back to the 1959 Chevy vs. 2009 Chevy in a 40mph offset collision. I find these two still images kinda fascinating.

Yea for crumple zones. The difference is incredible.
