Illyria: We cling to what is gone. Is there anything in this life but grief? Wesley: There's love. There's hope...for some. There's hope that you'll find something worthy...that your life will lead you to some joy...that after everything...you can still be surprised. Illyria: Is that enough? Is that enough to live on?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I just went to KFC. They're doing "market research," which involved them interviewing customers with a video camera.

I turned down the chance, as I just wasn't in the mood to be videoed on my lunch break. I could have gotten a $10 coupon if I had agreed. Now I almost with I had, just to fuck with them. Like, I could have twitched noticeably every time they said, "KFC."

“Not dead yet!”

Excellent, Kathy!

Pertaining somewhat to the discussion of middle school and sexuality, IFunnyAbbyN: We were watching Dancing With the Stars last week and Ashley Hamilton (George's son) was a competitor. When he came on, Abby was all, "Oh Mom, he's just soooo handsome. What a good looking man!"

Then he danced.

And she was like, "Oh, no... he's very handsome, but he just can't dance. Oh Ashley, no. Don't do anything. Just stand there and look handsome."

I was howling. My daughter has inherent understanding of the "Don't talk. Just sit there and look pretty," maxim at the age of eleven. (Okay a month shy of twelve, but still...)

Via io9, Kevin Van Aelst does really awesome math/science photos. For instance:

Mitosis...with donuts

Yin-yang...Oreo

The world...in an apple core

Chromosomes...with gummi worms

Coding and Sleeping

Back to the 1959 Chevy vs. 2009 Chevy in a 40mph offset collision. I find these two still images kinda fascinating.

Yea for crumple zones. The difference is incredible.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, that video was amazing. In a scary way!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

So, the Russians have a skull fragment that they said was a part of Hitler's skull. Turns out, no. [link] DNA analysis shows that the skull belonged to a woman, and examination of the bone suggests she was under 40. Which makes it possibly Eva Braun's skull, except that it has a bullet hole in it, and there weren't any reports that she was shot.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

msbelle I have to say, you are taking the whole last-minute no childcare thing way better than I usually do. I say kudos.

Can someone with an actual graphics program help me out? I have acquired a hi-res version of donut mitosis, but I want to crop each individual print into a file. It's a very simple task, but the only photo-editing software on my work computer is Paint.

(I am going to use this for my cancer pharmacology workshop. Yes, I will be teaching science with donuts.)
