I trust Gud, but I love our world, and don't want it to be invaded by, um, newbies? /xenophobic
Jossverse 1: Emotional Resonance & Rocket Launchers
TV, movies, web media--this thread is the home for any Joss projects that don't already have their own threads, such as Dr. Horrible.
We could build a big wall on the border. That'd surely work.
We'll get Angel to pay for it.
Oh jeebus. Newbies. And not only our talky talk, but coming up on two decades of history and shorthand and injokes. I don't think there's a FAQ in the world long enough. And I am surely not suggesting an update.
Hmm, maybe a Talky Meat thread where people can ask questions, and the good ones would get uploaded to a new FAQ.
I like Vortex's thread idea. There's no way we can (a) anticipate all the possible Q's that may or may not ever be FA (b) expect people to find and read them at the precise time it suits us or (c) make that a process that incorporates new people gracefully rather than in a chore-feeling way. A Welcome New Talky Meat thread would get people interacting without being all RTFM N00B at them, and not have us pointing them to in-jokes we haven't actually joked in the last decade.
I honestly doubt we'll get a huge influx of peeps in this day and age. We're dinosaurs!
I predict a medium size bump in new registrations, with a teeny tiny number of new active members in the long term. Kids today aren't looking for a text-only discussion board.
I'll take this over to Bureau in a minute, but one place we might want to make an update is the "About this site" page?
Welcome to Buffistas.org. This site is the online home of the Buffistas, a worldwide community of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly fans.
We could make it clear here that while we started out as a fansite, we are mostly just a bunch of old farts talking about our lives these days, with a baseline of common fannish interests.

That is a damn good idea.
I'm not an old fart! *considers* No, it fits.
Damn it.
