Jossverse 1: Emotional Resonance & Rocket Launchers
TV, movies, web media--this thread is the home for any Joss projects that don't already have their own threads, such as Dr. Horrible.
I'm looking at Monica Owusu-Breen's writing credits and I'm amused that she has a Fringe episode titled "Enemy of My Enemy" and a S.H.I.E.L.D. ep titled "Frenemy of my Enemy".
Huh.
I would hope they're going to do all new stories while keeping the name and the general world. I'd have zero interest in a retread of the original storylines.
I'd have zero interest in a retread of the original storylines.
Neither would I, but I don't think that's what they're saying at all. They said "build on the mythology of the original." To me that just means they aren't starting from scratch.
I've seen the word "reboot" in a couple of places, but that may just be people using imprecise language.
After the announcement of the Buffy reboot, I saw some Twitter hot takes calling Joss a sexual predator.
I'm curious to see how Buffistas see him now. Do you consider him a sexual predator?
Personally I don't see him in that category - just rather typical Hollywood sleeziness with producers sleeping with actresses. And obviously that's an asymmetrical relationship with him having more power, but none of the women involved (as far as I know) suggested harassment or quid pro quo arrangements.
But I'm just wondering what your perspective is at this point.
I think part of why "typical Hollywood sleaziness" *is* so typical is because people haven't, until now, called that behavior out as that of a sexual predator.
I don't know. I don't want a reboot. I don't want Joss involved. An independently written sequel with a diverse cast and modern issues - yes, please, I want that. (But what if it's really bad? What if it's the Ultron of the Buffyverse?)
And obviously that's an asymmetrical relationship with him having more power
Which is kinda what makes it predatory.
Which is kinda what makes it predatory.
I think it's gross, but I am not sure I'd call it overtly predatory. I think it's part of the same mindset of entitlement that is part of the toxic culture that leads to overtly predatory behavior, but unless one of the actresses apparently involved comes out and says anything, it falls shy of that in my mental taxonomy of shit behavior.
Yeah, I can see that argument. I guess I'm just not interested in dedicating much mental bandwidth into grading this specific degree of shittiness. Which I don't mean to sound dismissive. It just exhausts me that we have to argue again about why a white guy deserves another chance.
