From my insider in the business - they all do. The women just have to maintain a viable career.
But it doesn't have to be Jennifer Grey levels of plastic surgery disaster. Plumpers, botox, a little nip and tuck, lots of money on expensive skincare regimes. It's not a clear bright line. Just part of maintaining their career.
Why do they start so early? It seems to me to be way before age is noticeably distracting.
2 reasons - one, so you get used to the idea that they'll always look like they have had work done, and two, so there's less "catch-up" to do.
Juliana, I can totally see the latter and the former just makes me sad.
It reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where the arguably beautiful woman is considered an outcast because she doesn't conform to the rest of society. Ugh.
Speaking of sad but no surprise at all news, Kai Cole's essay about Joss' cheating ways should come as a shock to no one, but damn. Another potentially heroic character has feet of clay.
I suppose everyone has their issues but it would have been so much better if he hadn't vaunted himself as a feminist icon.

The whole blaming the patriarchy, and mansplaininess, of that letter was so hugely chokingly hypocritical, I can't even.

I think this is it for me, too. It reminds me of the letter published in Patricia Neal's memoir, where Roald Dahl admitted his affair with her nurse and also blamed her for breaking up their marriage because she couldn't live with him being with the nurse for awhile.
