I don't remember Coulson saying when Fury recruited him, just that he did. (Though I could have missed it.)
Ward did say Garrett recruited him at 17.

TV, movies, web media--this thread is the home for any Joss projects that don't already have their own threads, such as Dr. Horrible.

Ward did say Garrett recruited him at 17.
He said Fury recruited him out of high school, in the scene where he was putting the SHIELD badges into the safe behind his desk.
So...why exactly did they hike 7 miles in the snow when they've got Lola the flying car?!
So very tired of the Ward/Skye nonsense. But I am glad they didn't go the route of Coulson losing it.
So very tired of the Ward/Skye nonsense.
At least it actually serves the plot now, giving Garrett a way into the hidden base etc. And the previews make it look like Skye gets a clue next week.
Fitz is desperately jealous of Tripp, isn't he.

Super.
Like Kalshane, I find evil Ward more interesting, but Brett Dalton isn't really wowing me with Grant Ward vs. "Grant Ward."
Gravitonium is a really stupid-sounding name.
I wonder if Hydra will object to Garrett not being a true believer. Telling the guy he looked like a Texas cheerleader will not enamor him to the faithful.
And when is someone going to say "I wonder if Tony Stark has any cool gadgets that would be of use. Like, say, Jarvis?"
I didn't realize Garrett was based on a comic character. Which explains that mysterious metal plate.
That was Adrian Pasdar playing Major Talbot? I completely did not recognize him!
I didn't either. Nice.
I find Evil Ward much more good-looking.
I liked this episode. I'm very interested to find out what Garrett actually wants - he doesn't seem to be into Hydra's goals, who knows of anything he said as the Clairvoyant was true (and "change the world", what does that mean? Could be anything). And I feel for Coulson, trying to be a Good Guy when he has so little idea what is going on or who he can trust.
Yeah, the cheerleader line was funny, but it will be interesting to see what happens when he runs into the HYDRA leadership.
I do find it interesting that Coulson was on the short list of people allowed to know Fury is alive, but May wasn't, even though she was spying on Coulson for Fury.
Also, I hope Fury wasn't relying on Coulson's badge for any other tricks. Oops.
ETA: I'm thinking the current situation is why Fury pulled out all the stops to resurrect Coulson and put in him charge of a semi-autonomous team. He knew something was wrong with SHIELD, if not exactly what, and needed someone like Coulson to help pick up the pieces when the shit finally hit the fan.
