There's a whole movie genre of James Spader Is A Freak Who Gets His Freak On. I approve.
He is the God-King of Perv: Crash, Secretary, Sex, Lies and Videotape.
I'd be disappointed to find out he's really vanilla and just a good actor with a pervy face.
"Good guys, bad guys, and explosions, as far as the eye can see."
How is that different from a non-nihilistic action movie?
IO9's list of upcoming comic book titles include a number of things which might be of interest to various fandoms who don't usually go to the comic book store: X-Files (crossover with 30 Days of Night), Stargate, Dr. Who.

Say what you want about the non-nihilistic action movies, but at least they had an ethos!
I love action movies anymore. I've drifted so far from rom-coms. If I'm putting on something for background noise it's much more likely to be something like
The Italian Job
or
The Rock,
or even horror, like
Resident Evil
or the remake of
Dawn of the Dead.
(Which I typed first as Dawn of the DEAN. My Winchester love is getting a little ridiculous.)
I can't even watch rom-coms anymore, especially not new ones.
I love rom-coms as a genre, yet I cannot remember the last good one I saw.
Of course, there are rom-coms that are not very good but I love them anyway because I am a Sucker (prime example: Two Weeks' Notice.)
I've drifted away from rom coms a fair amount too, but I'm glad I saw
Just Wright.
It was really charming and sweet and hot. Mostly I like movies where people try and kill other people. Hopefully, they are also funny.
I have a few old favorites --
Notting Hill
and
About a Boy --
but generally I'd watch
Pretty Woman
again before any new ones or anything with Tom Hanks or Meg Ryan ever again.
