"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

The controversy over the marketing of Valentine's Day made me look at the poster, and this movie has Jessica Alba, Jamie Foxx, Ashton Kutcher, AND Julia Roberts in it. (What, Nicholas Cage and Kathie Lee weren't available?) Plus the brushed-under-the-rug gay storyline stars Eric Dane, who seems like a great guy in real life but might as well stand in the corner holding out a handful of cigars. I don't know if my affection for Queen Latifah and Bradley Cooper is strong enough to be worth subjecting myself to this thing.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Matt,

what controversy? I didn't know there was a controversy.

The trailers make it look as if Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper are a couple, but it's Cooper and Eric Dane who are together.

Because books.

Wow, I had no clue.

I have zero interest in that movie, except now I would very much like to see Eric Dane and Bradley Cooper kissing.

Matt,

for real? wow.

Wow... I'm kind of hating 20th Century Fox right now. I just found out they removed the special features from dvds for rental places like Netflix and Blockbuster. So we couldn't see the deleted scenes and alternate opening from Whip It, and there's nothing except previews on Jennifer's Body. So lame, Fox!

Our wings are not tired.

Really?! Wow. The extras on the dvds are sometimes the only reason that I want to rent the dvd rather than just stream. Guess I won't consider that anymore.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I don't think they're the only studio, since I had the same thing happen with Assassination of Jesse James, a WB release.

I guess they need some to give us some reason to buy rather than rent. If I am too impatient for a dvd release, I will usually Amazon unbox it and watch on the Roku. I did that with Mad Men season 3 and also with last season of 30 Rock. In both of those cases, I knew I'd also be buying the dvds when they came out, just for the commentary.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Aargh. But I totally don't rent instead of buying. Is that popular? If buying is the only way to get a commentary or extra feature, I probably just won't get it. Buying is a whole different level of affection for a movie or TV show.

But I'm guessing not everyone has the same approach to archival.
