Of course, even if the original was good, I'd ask "Why?" because I don't get the rationale for director-oriented films being remade.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
I did see facetious remarks that Book of Eli was a Zardoz remake. It was pretty funny. But I haven't seen anything in seriousness.

The DVD has a commentary by Boorman which is basically two hours of "I'm not sure why I did that. I'm not sure why I did that either."
I got to admit, bad movies by Boorman tend to be compelling (see also, if you dare, Exorcist II: The Heretic). They certainly aren't boring.

Apparently Zachary Quinto just sent a facet of fandom into a tizzy by saying he wasn't doing any more Spock for two years. He had to post on his site that he meant apart from the movie--he's not doing any conventions or anything in the meanwhile. No Spock until the movie.
I guess he's assuming he's going to be pulling a paycheque for Heroes or conventions as Sylar?
