Mom and I saw Julie & Julia on Saturday at the discount theather. Good film, and the Julie section of the story was better than I thought it'd be--it got a lot of laughs from the audience, and Amy Adams was really fun to watch in the role.
Meryl Streep was, of course, amazing as Julia Child, and Stanley Tucci was terrific as Paul. I so believed them as their characters that I got a bit uncomfortable when they were getting it on, because at first, thinking of Julia Child having sex is sort of like thinking of one's grandparents having sex, just an "I don't want to imagine that!!" reaction. Then it became just a wonderful relationship to observe, so loving and supportive.
Jane Lynch was absolutely perfect as her sister!! Hilarious performance. I'll have to go to IMDB and look up who played Erma Rombauer, because she was really familiar but I'm having a hard time placing her.
I might end up getting the dvd for this, especially if they have some good extras on it.
What do we think of this news, btw? I think ten BP nominees is going to make the ceremony twelve hours long and the nominations themselves fairly meaningless.
I'm not usually here, but we saw WtWTA this weekend and loved it and I find my brain wanting to just focus on nothing else, but dissecting and examining how
the Wild Things all fit together
and how and when
Max goes to them to get what he needs emotionally or to match up with what he is feeling emotionally.
Most of what I've seen written about and discussed is the Wild Thing parts, but the beginning of the movie I thought was also very strong. They did wonderful things with non-speaking sections and also music, I thought.
I think it is fucking ridiculous and unnecessary.
note: my comment is NOT directed at msbelle, but at Jessica's post regarding the 10 Oscar nominees.
I think ten BP nominees is going to make the ceremony twelve hours long and the nominations themselves fairly meaningless.
But did we even get summary montages of them this year? I just remember that weird thing they did with the best actresses (but not, for some reason, best actors), where we didn't even get to see a clip of them performing.
All I know is it's going to make my Oscar blitz viewing near-impossible this year (esp. since I've barely seen anything).
I miss Oscar blitz viewing.
Since Steve will be on the other side of the continent, and I've got the dogs situation much improved, I will be available for lots of movie viewing, Megan!!
Ricky Gervais will be hosting the Golden Globes in January.
I could never choose between NPH and Gervais. I love them both so much!
