Wow, this review of Inglorious Basterds makes it sound like an incredible film. I might just have to see it, even though I usually find Tarantino films tiresomely self-indulgent.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
That's funny Kathy, I just finished reading the one in the New Yorker which eviscerated the movie and Tarantino.
The comments I heard 4 months ago seemed to indicate this is a TERRIBLE movie. However, Bill Maher seemed to think it was really funny.
I think it will probably fall to whether you like Tarantino or not. A good friend of mine gave a review, and she loved it. Thought it was his best since Pulp Fiction. But she likes Tarantino.
I like Tarantino as well, but I preferred Planet Terror to Death Proof and haven't seen Jackie Brown.

Awesome!! That looks AMAZING.
But she likes Tarantino.
The company I work for was at Cannes this year, and 2 of my co-workers saw it there. One liked it but said there was much gore and yuk, and one hated it with a passion. The buzz at Cannes was that it was that it was terrible so YMMV.
Did they boo? Sorry...one-track mind.
I think I remember that the Cannes version was an early rough cut. But I always enjoy Tarantino so we'll see it this weekend.
And both of the above reviews confused me for different reasons, but this bit from Denby really jumped out:
Tarantino has gone past his usual practice of decorating his movies with homages to others. This time, he has pulled the film-archive door shut behind him—there’s hardly a flash of light indicating that the world exists outside the cinema except as the basis of a nutbrain fable.
This time?
