Because books.

I fell asleep during QoS. It was really disappointing to me given how much I loved Casino Royale.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

is the eyeball looking at the men?

No. The eyeball was scenery in a production of Tosca, and I guess the half-naked men were opera singers. However unlikely that seems.

I am enjoying the scenery in the movie, having been to Sienna and heard about Bregenz.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I thought the pacing was much better in QoS, myself.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

The problem with most action movies is that I come out of them wanting to see a movie with a woman who kicks ass, isn't (solely) a sex object, and at no point has to dress like a hooker.

There's a short supply of those.

I really do think that the theme song was the worst part of the movie. And pretty hilarious, with the music video included on the DVD.

QoS had 2 out of 3!

Okay, so the girl is the main reason I dig the movie. She was awesome! She will TOTALLY be like M when she's older and further along in her career.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Ditto for me. I enjoy it for these reasons. I love it's lush pustulence. That it is a failed conventional space opera and Not The Book is not a worry for me.

I love Lynch's Dune and make no apologies about it. I'll even defend it as an adaptation (and Dune is one of my favorite books) - there's a lot you have to squint and ignore, but the way everyone speaks only in italics, ellipses, and exclamation points pretty much captures the flavor of the book dead-on.

Arrakis...Dune...desert planet...!

Aside: I recently reread the whole series and was struck by how randomly homophobic God Emperor is. Which is a shame because I'd remembered it as one of the high points in the series and now I don't really want to read it ever again.

PEOPLE, GO SEE MOON. It's really fantastic.

(Also, Primer and Children of Men need to be moved WAY the hell up on that list. Silent Running - you know I love you, but really? 16th best SF movie ever? Dark City needs to be removed entirely. Feh.)

Because books.

Aw, I liked Dark City ! That's the one with ... William Hurt? And Jennifer Connelly? It had problems, but I liked the noir feeling.

Children of Men is just brutal and fantastic. And while I actually liked the book, the movie blew it out of the water. (It's also been years and years since I read it, though.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

JZ's mom was in town and offered to look after Matildy while JZ and I spent money we couldn't afford on a hotel room in downtown SF.

It was lovely.

And in the morning we scrolled through the movie options On Demand and came down to choosing between Clive Owen in Duplicity and Clive Owen in The International. Now I thought I was going to choose The International, but the preview for Duplicity looked more fun and so we opted for Caper Clive over Intensely Broody Clive.

It was good fun. (Despite the presence of Theo's Most Hated.)

You know for a guy who turned down the role of James Bond, Clive's down an awful lot of movies that are rather Bondish: Bourne Identity, BMW commercials, Duplicity, The International, Shoot 'Em Up.
