Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I thought it was a half decent essay. Not a patch on Casino Royale, though.
I was ok with QoS. I can put up with a lot for Daniel Craig.
I fell asleep during QoS. It was really disappointing to me given how much I loved Casino Royale.
is the eyeball looking at the men?
No. The eyeball was scenery in a production of Tosca, and I guess the half-naked men were opera singers. However unlikely that seems.
I am enjoying the scenery in the movie, having been to Sienna and heard about Bregenz.
I thought the pacing was much better in QoS, myself.
The problem with most action movies is that I come out of them wanting to see a movie with a woman who kicks ass, isn't (solely) a sex object, and at no point has to dress like a hooker.
There's a short supply of those.
I really do think that the theme song was the worst part of the movie. And pretty hilarious, with the music video included on the DVD.
QoS had 2 out of 3!
Okay, so the girl is the main reason I dig the movie. She was awesome! She will TOTALLY be like M when she's older and further along in her career.
Ditto for me. I enjoy it for these reasons. I love it's lush pustulence. That it is a failed conventional space opera and Not The Book is not a worry for me.
I love Lynch's Dune and make no apologies about it. I'll even defend it as an adaptation (and Dune is one of my favorite books) - there's a lot you have to squint and ignore, but the way everyone speaks only in italics, ellipses, and exclamation points pretty much captures the flavor of the book dead-on.
Arrakis...Dune...desert planet...!
Aside: I recently reread the whole series and was struck by how randomly homophobic God Emperor is. Which is a shame because I'd remembered it as one of the high points in the series and now I don't really want to read it ever again.
PEOPLE, GO SEE MOON. It's really fantastic.
