Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
She was good in her role, yeah. The whole thing was pretty well cast.
Hey Steph (or others), speaking of kids seeing Deadpool, Frances was invited by a friend to see it this weekend and I am wondering if she should go. She's pretty touchy about violence and cussing whenever we bring up possible movies to watch, but on the other hand she likes Galaxy of the Guardians. I'm assuming it earns its R rating. I'm more concerned about how violent the violence is than the cussing.
Burrell, it's INCREDIBLY, graphically violent. A lot of the fight scenes are super over the top in their graphicness, so they didn't really bother me, but they're VERY gory and explicit. Nothing is left to the imagination.
There are some pretty awful torture scenes that are much less graphic but WAY more upsetting to me.
It's not even remotely like Guardians of the Galaxy in terms of violence and tone.
I think the age restriction behind the R rating is right on in this case. (Look, if a parent thinks their 15- or 16-year-old can handle it, that's one thing. But really, it's not appropriate for younger kids. I cannot stress enough how graphically violent it is.)
Thanks, Steph, I've passed all that info on to her. Thanks for being so explicit (and without giving away any spoilers!)
So, when people see Deadpool, come back and read my whitefont -- the only fanfic I want is what happens to Dopinder the cabbie. I NEED TO KNOW.
SAME STEPH NEED RESOLUTION THERE AHAHAHAHA.
Except "Dopinder" is not an actual name, it should be "Dupinder," what the hell.
Deadpool was so great. So great! If you liked the trailers, you'll like the movie.
SAME STEPH NEED RESOLUTION THERE AHAHAHAHA.
I'm pulling for Dopinder and Gita, but Tim pointed out that he was in a wreck with his cousin tied up in the trunk and a duffle bag full of guns, so. I told Tim he just wasn't a romantic.
(I seriously wanted the post-credits scene to be Dopinder and Gita's wedding. BECAUSE I'M A GODDAMN ROMANTIC.)
DEADPOOL IS THE BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER. Also, the best romantic movie ever. Okay, the best not-entirely-serious superhero movie ever. Sticking with the best-romance assessment, though.
It is very graphically violent. Also, there's sex and some references you don't want to have to explain to an innocent child. I agree, this is not a movie for kids.
It did pretty damn good on the feminist front, too. Nobody got fridged, Deadpool was out to avenge himself. No helpless damsels, Vanessa needed rescuing but she got herself out of the pod and then she stuck a sword in Ajax to save Deadpool. Angel and Warhead both had actual personalities, and neither were sexualized. Not a whole lot of women talking to each other, but to be fair, Deadpool did most of the talking.
I'm happy.
For all the praise, I think I'm going to skip Deadpool. Gore and rough language bother me. I am at peace with my snowflakeness.
