Thanks for the review, Megan. I love that book and have been interested in hearing how the movie is.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I did not particularly think I'd like Kingsman: The Secret Service, but I gave it a try.
I did not like it.
The more I hear about Kingsman the less I can figure out who thought it would be a good idea.
I saw two movies over the last two weeks. I expected to enjoy both of them and both actually exceeded my expectations.
Trainwreck hit more standard romantic comedy beats than I expected it to and was all the better for it. Enjoyed it immensely and keep laughing about it two weeks later.
Ant-Man was one of my favorite marvel movies yet. I need to reevaluate my rankings with more rewatches of some I have only seen once, especially civil war. But I think it will likely rank third or fourth for me, after guardians and civil war and maybe the avengers. It was just loads of fun and I value that immensely. And I thought the story held together and was more super heroic than I had been led to believe it would.
Gris, are you secretly a time traveler? Civil War isn't out yet; maybe you mean CA: Winter Soldier?
I gave a movie the chance to make me hate a Colin Firth character once; never again.
I've read some fanfiction about Kingsman that is pretty good, but it sounds like it is better than the movie.
Yeah, seeing the fanfic go by made me wonder, and...I'm still wondering.
I am generally OK reading fanfic before I see the source material if I like the author, and sometimes (Sports Night) I end up liking the source material and others less so.
Of course now you have made me curious, so maybe I WILL watch Kingsman.
I really, really don't recommend it, unless you have no problem with unpleasant violence.
