A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

A good read (I thought) from Speranza, who is in slash fandom, but has lots of interesting things to say about reading the film from a Doylist perspective. A lot of her thoughts are my thoughts.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

(Uh, Watsonian vs. Doylist: [link])

Oooh, useful! I realize I'm mostly Doylist because whenever there were complaints about Cordy's character arc on Angel, I'd shrug and go, "Well, maybe Charisma shouldn't have done so much blow she had to change her hairstyle every week and go to rehab and get written out of the show."

Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

And Joss just deleted his Twitter account.

brillig

I think I'm a fan of the Forsythian view, myself.

edit: as in Laura is a willing beard for Clint and Coulson because she gets a nice place to live, pleasant guys to hang out with, and good looking kids out of the deal. Also, Steve and Tony were doing things in the barn Fury threatened to tear his remaining eye out over. Hence him saying he worries about Tony. See? It writes itself.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Yeah, I recognize that a lot of what felt like bloat to me is because Marvel Studios has a damn 100-year movie plan at this point, and AoU had to set more things in place (though Thor's trip to the Pool of Revelation or whatever the hell it was, just so he could infodump to the audience, was ridiculously clunky). That's not something Joss could do anything about.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Joss also deleted it in 2013. As I was saying on Tumblr, the negative feedback he's been getting may have hastened it, but given that he's through with his promotional obligations, I expect he'd have done it within a week or two, anyhow.

Heh. But dontcha know she was written out because she was knocked up? ::eyeroll::

I'm actually pretty Doylist a lot of the time, but I'm also not going to completely excuse clunky workarounds or poor writing choices.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

And Joss just deleted his Twitter account.

Yeah, apparently a bunch of people twitted at him with stuff like "go kill yourself," like WTF, people?

I've been in my part of fandom so long, I almost have a hard time understanding why people get worked up over canon they don't like. I mean, of course I understand it, but there's also a part of me that's like "Canon isn't the boss of us!"

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I'll just say that Doyleist is very confusing when talking about Angel! I was really confused!

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Me too.

Me too.

Have I any original thoughts? Not at the moment.
