I haven't seen Black Narcissus. Is it one I should hold out seeing on big screen or can I dvd it?
Well, I wouldn't hold out for long, but it does have that super-saturated color that would be great on a big screen.

I think Criterion came out with an edition of Black Narcissus not that long ago. They usually put out a hell of a product.

Unless you live in a huge metropolitan city where there are periodic Powell and Pressburger retrospectives (NYC or San Francisco, pretty much), chances of catching BN on a big screen would be pretty slim. The DVD is beautifully remastered (I believe the fine folks at Criterion had their hands at it) and totally worth a rental.
I did have a good luck of seeing Life and Death of Colonel Blimp on big screen during a film festival in Toronto a decade ago and it was pretty spectacular.

Vonnie: Hi! And yes, I live in the SF Bay Area. Not as many retro houses as we used to have, but we still have a few.
I make a point of holding out for the spectacular; for example I waited 13 years to see Sunrise, which came to the Castro in the mid-90's. Totally worth the wait.

It's for the new Sandra Bullock rom-com, The Proposal. I've watched it, mostly because I like rom-com as a genre and have a everlasting weakness for Sandra Bullock, but it's not very good. But Reynolds is half-naked in a couple of scenes though.
