AW YISS. My instant video copy of CA:TWS is available today.
Am I going to watch it every day? Probably.
I wish I could go home right now and get started.
Oz ,'First Date'
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Oh jeez, we're not going to see Ple for a month.
You won't see me for a month, either, but that's because my BluRay of Only Lovers Left Alive arrives today.

Hah! That was cute.
Perfect, Dan!
Nice, DCJ!
I saw Lucy yesterday. It wanted to be more profound than it was. All science-tinged technobabble aside, the evolutionary imagery didn't blend well with the action bits. The director seemed fixated on ScarJo's eyes--which are lovely, but didn't require quite so many close-ups. I think ScarJo did a good job with the early, emotional bits, but she seemed to be trying to play someone without emotion in the last 3/4 of the movie--I suspect a directorial choice--and it came across as flat. Speaking of, I have doubts that accessing more intellegence would make us less emotional. Emotions are brain based, too, right (with help from hormones)? So accessing more of our brains may well mean we access more emotions, not fewer. But picking at the science in this movie won't lead anywhere good. Or fit in one post. The action bits were sufficiently actiony, things blew up as needed, and I felt like a vital transition scene got accidentally cut somewhere. It was refreshing to see a summer action flick that never has a US scene. I felt that having almost all the bad guys be Chinese and all the good guys be white wasn't the best choice. But it was nice to have a chunk of the movie set in Taipei; I haven't seen a lot of movies set there.
So, on the whole, I'm ok with paying for a matinee ticket, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price.
My last thought on dropping off to sleep last night:
Dread Pirate Smurf:
"Goodnight Peter Quill. I'll most likely let them eat you in the morning."
