"The Piemaker is Ronan?!"
That's almost verbatim what I said to Tim.
And -- did everyone catch the
semen
joke? (The
black light/Jackson Pollock
line on Quill's ship, after Gamora said the ship was filthy.) I am endlessly amused they slipped that one in.
Yep. Though I'm a
tiny
bit skeptical that info about that artist would have made enough of an impression on gradeschool-age Peter that he'd be making joking references after 26 years of no contact with Earth culture.

True enough. But I was so startled/amused at the fact they slipped the joke in, I can forgive it.
(
"Ranger Rick",
on the other hand, was PERFECT.)
Matt I caught the line but hadn't thought about that however
there were other references (mostly visual) that made me think that there is some level of contact with humans. I mean, everyone seemed to know that Quill was Terran and what that meant. And Yando (or however you spell his name) had the troll doll and some other things that were very EArth like. Plus there was Peter's stereo. He could have made that or had someone make it, and he could have had those things in his backpack (the troll and other little things) but I got the impression that other Terrans had ended up in that part of space maybe taking stuff or info with them.
So they're making a sequel to Hansel and Gretel. Did it really make enough money to justify a sequel? Or are Jeremy Renner's arms and butt that much a draw?
Did it really make enough money to justify a sequel?
Oftentimes movies make a lot more internationally which justifies a sequel. That's probably the money logic here.
It did have a very Eurocentric feel to it. So more naked Renner butt to look forward to. It must be in the really cheap bin somewhere.
So I went to see Obvious Child tonight, and it was good! It's not awesome, but it was funny, and occasionally moving, and kind of off-kilter and quirky, and the abortion bits were blackly humorous and seemed very true-to-life. I definitely recommend it if you're the kind of person who's okay with a rom-com that involves an abortion by the main character.
I saw GotG and loved it.
Disappointed in Lee Pace and Karen Gillian a little, but I didn't know it was Pace until the credits - kind of like Eccelston in Thor 2.
Also saw GotG over the weekend. I'd have liked a little more goofy, but any movie that turns
"Ooh, Child"
into a major plot point isn't taking itself too seriously.
