I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I got to see an advanced screening of Guardians of the Galaxy last night. I liked it way more than I expected, and I went in expecting to have a good time. My biggest surprise was how much I liked Groot. The CGI on Groot is amazing! He's very expressive and, as mentioned in interviews, every "I am Groot" is different. I want all the Groot merch now--t-shirts, action figures, one-shot origin story comics, you name it.

Hey. New board.

Has anybody NOT liked GotG? Every early review I've seen has been positive.

We are expecting baby 2 any day now and now I'm crossing my fingers she holds out past Aug 1...

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Has anybody NOT liked GotG?

Nope.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I have GOT to stop reading these things! For everyone who says "I can't believe it lived up to the hype!" the bar for me just gets higher and higher! I guess I have a week to remind myself that there's no way it's that good.....

Okay, over on FB Victor got me curious enough to watch the trailer for 50 Shades of Grey.

Ha, whereas on FB I clicked on a link my cousin had posted, which was an article giving women 6 reasons not to watch it. One of those reasons was Because Christianity and now I'm feeling all dirty and "get off my side, you're making my side look bad."

I look more rad than Lutheranism

6 reasons not to watch it.

Please tell me reason #1 is because it was poorly written Twilight fanfic.

...yeah, I can dream.

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

I read that same article Shrift and kept thinking "my reasons are not your reasons". I think there are much better arguements to be made against wasting any cash on the flick. Starting with Steph's.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I read the wiki summary of the stories, and that doesn't entice me any further. The trailer leaves me uninspired. The plot doesn't seemed based in reality, what there is of it. The only reason my interest was peaked was because CKR has a minor role in it.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Yeah, the only interest I had was in Jamie Dornan (who apparently the fans are saying isn't hot enough, in case you needed further proof of how crazy they are how tastes differ). But even he's not pretty enough to subject myself to that.

As a lover of fanfic, and knowing that some authors take their fics and change the name to turn them into original fiction, I'm not offended by the idea of fic going mainstream in this sense. And I shouldn't say this because I can't judge for not having read this particular one, but my god, there is so much good fic out there that could be converted first to original fiction, and then opted for a movie. But I have to wonder, why this particular one (and I realize that only a small margin of fic writers turn their fanfic into non-fiction)? (maybe that's a question for any story that get's opted to either be published, or given movie rights).
