OMG Vivian Maier.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Pi was formative for me but is probably not great as a movie. I'm not sure Requiem holds together as a great movie but it is great at doing what it wants to do, which is freak you out and depress you. Both are brilliantly directed in terms of their scenes so I see that argument based on that sample.
Which one, Tom? I did go see, Finding Vivian Maier, and I thought it was really well done—how they slowly let out the secrets of her life. I'm thinking way more about her than her photographs now. And I don't know if I wished it was more about her pictures....
Also, I work with someone , G, who is very much like Vivan Maier. (secretive, lies about personal details of her life, estranged from family, wears big overcoats all year round, suspicious of men to the extent where she wears a fake wedding riing to keep men away.) In describing the film to one of my former coworkers today, she brought up G. before I could even mention all the similarities.
And I don't know if I wished it was more about her pictures....
I had pretty much the same reaction.
I didn't even know about the Vivien Maier movie. I want to see it.
For those who had wondered about Kristen Bell's singing chops, here's a live "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?"
Debating leaving work a teensy bit early tonight to catch the Captain America double feature. At first I figured I didn't need to, I'm pretty sure I've seen Capt America more than any of the others in the series (or at least the ones not on TV all the time). But I think maybe I'd like to get reacquainted with Bucky, so WS will be more impact-y.
So, who -- other than Epic -- is going to see CA2 tonight? I'd like to, but I'm too old for a midnight movie on a weeknight. (Or, okay, a weekend night, too. Shut up.) But we are seeing it tomorrow night, and I am SO EXCITE.
